No Solution for the boycotted the evaluation of answer scripts of the Advance Level

Five teachers unions boycotted the evaluation of answer scripts of the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination, urging the government to issue a circular pertaining to removal of salary anomalies of teachers and principals from yesterday.

Even though the evaluations were to officially commence yesterday, this action has brought the paper marking throughout the island to a standstill.

“By now, the Teacher Unions have reached the 2nd day of their strike. Today, we are 100% successful. Even though several Tamil teachers had participated in the evaluations yesterday, nothing is being done in a single marking centre today. President Secretary Lalith Weerathunga has given us an opportunity to hold discussions on the matter at 7p.m. tonight. However, we will not abandon our struggle till our demand has been granted”, Joseph Stalin who is a Coordinator of the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU), said.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court had notified the Secretary of the Ministry of Education to present himself at the Supreme Court on tomorrow. The Supreme Court claims that the Judiciary has been greatly insulted by the newly issued circular for the intake of year one students that has been set, disregarding the guidelines provided by the Supreme Court.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court registrar, Bandula Athapatthu, a notice has been issued for the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Ariyarathna Hewage to present himself and plead his case on tomorrow (August 22nd).
