Representatives from Montessori Teachers of Kopy Sirupitti electorate, met at a discussion, Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare, at his Ministerial office, on the last 14th.

The group representing the Montessori Teachers complained to the Minister that though they have been serving as Montessori teachers for a long period of time, they have not been regularly paid so far. But during the period when the Minister was the Minister of Development, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction of the North and Tamil Affairs, North and East they were paid a regular allowance through special programmes, at present they depend entirely on the meagre sums extended by the parents.

Minister informed the representatives who at present are working under Community Centres to continue to be in the humanitarian duties that they are involved at present, until such time he would make arrangements to pay them for the commendable work they do. To tide over the lagging period, the Minister stated that he would make arrangements to pay them an allowance out of his personal funds.
