Minister Devananda resorts to steps for supplying electricity to Jaffna people

Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare, addressing a group of representative from public organisations at his Ministerial office on the last 11th stated that he would take all that was necessary for development of Pungudutivu and Eluvaitivu Islets in Jaffna peninsula.

The Minister stated so at the time the representatives from public organisation submitted development proposals of their regions to the Minister. The representatives said that the development activities including the development of roads initiated by the Hon. Minister were still in sound condition and what they wanted was the development activities of the calibre that had been already launched.

The representatives also informed the Minister that the roads developed during the time the local Government bodies were under the control of the EPDP, were still in good condition.

The Minister speaking further said that he intended implementing the development activities as quickly as possible needed by the Islets. Accordingly immediate steps would be taken to initiate the development activities of Pungudutivu and Eluvaitivu Islets and supply of electricity to areas where they don’t have this facility at present.

Minister also said that he would take steps to rid of the frequent braking down of electricity supply within a period of two months and arrangements were already in place to get down additional Generators to regularize electricity supply to Jaffna.
