Non Cabinet Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana said on yesterday attended with press conference that The Sunday Times Consultant Editor also defence correspondent, Iqbal Athas had refused to accept police protection he was provided with.At a media briefing, the Minister said a journalist has the right to seek protection if he is under threat. He further said that certain sections with vested interests are trying to exploit the situation.
Totally rejecting the statement of the Media Minister, Iqbal Athas says that he did no such thing.
He added that not a single government official or defence officer has contacted him after the removal of his security.
