Madu road opening impossible

The Government and LTTE agreed to open the Mannar Madu Road today the 10th for the convenience of the pilgrims to participate in the annual Madhu Church festival. But the Mannar G.A., A. Nicholaspillai said, it is not possible to open the Mannar Madu Road because the ICRC has not come forward for monitoring service in the no man area. Hence arrangements are being made to use the Uyilankulam Road instead of Madu Mannar Road. The road has been closed for the last one year and we were not given sufficient time to clear the land mines planted in this road and it is also not safe to use the road, said the ICRC.

Meanwhile Army Sources said, Two bodies of LTTE cadres were found with gun shot injuries at Vavuniya Mahamylankulam area yesterday.

A check point of this area came under attack the day before yesterday night at 8.00 p.m. A soldier and a home guard were killed and five soldiers were injured.

The army launched a search operation in this area yesterday and found these two bodies of the LTTE cadres along with some arms. The LTTE has admitted that these bodies are of their cadres and made a request to hand over the bodies to them through the ICRC.
