JVP collected people for actions against the government’s babe economic policies

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has decided to the take to the streets with the general masses to protest against corruption in the government and the ever escalating cost of living.

As the first step, the JVP organized a protest campaign in Colombo today (August 14th) against price hikes of fuel, gas, milk powder and other commodities as well as rampant corruption and wastage of public money by maintaining a huge cabinet.

A protest march began from Campbell Park in Borella at 2.00 pm and culminated at Lipton Circus where a demonstration took place.

The JVP has alleged that the government had demonstrated its inability of governance, with its President and top ministers saying that waging a war and controlling commodity prices cannot be done at the same time.

Without stopping at the liberation of the East, the LTTE, which has been confined to a limited area in the North, has to be defeated militarily without being misled by international mediators, its Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa said.
However, JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said recently that a democratically-elected government cannot be allowed to be overthrown.

The high prices of fuel and commodities are due to the government waging an unnecessary war, and bribery and corruption rampant in the Rajapaksa administration. Therefore this government has to be toppled, the UNP and the SLFP (M) said.
