Chief Government Whip, Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle today (August 15th) accused UN Undersecretary General John Holmes of being a terrorist. “Anyone who supports terrorism is, himself, a terrorist,” the Minister told the media in Colombo, adding that he would not hesitate to call John Holmes so.
John Holmes had been bribed by the LTTE into making statements against the Government, Fernandopulle alleged.
Responding to a question by a journalist, Minister Fernandopulle said the government would not forbid the UN Undersecretary General from visiting the island, but that the people would take care of him once he arrives at the Katunayake Airport.
The Chief Government Whip also said that the government intended to hold elections in the Eastern Province. “We hope the Karuna Faction too, would take part. Not just the Karuna Faction, the others should disarm as well. Why is it that Holmes only sees the Karuna faction being armed?” he asked.
