Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Ariyarathna Athugala has been attempt to steal a scholarship of a feature producer of the SLRC and to scoff Rs. 300,000 funds that ended with exposiure and revenge of the Chairman.

According to the story German radio and TV service Dutch Welles granted a scholarship to Premachandra Rupasinghe, a feature producer of the SLRC. The Chairman Athugala changed the scholarship to his name and attempted to claim Rs. 300,000 as expenses from the Administrative Section of the SLRC. The subject clerk informed him the claim could not be granted.

The angry Chairman scolded the Administration section for not caring his request emphasizing that he was the Chairman of the SLRC.

When the subject clerk enquired the details of the scholarship from the Dutch Welles via email, the German radio and TV service responded stating that the scholarship is entirely free of charge with air tickets, food, lodging, and petty cash too. The subject clerk has handed over the reply email to the Chairman. Chairman Athugala immediately transferred the brave female clerk to another section to take revenge for preventing him obtaining a scholarship that belonged to someone else.

SLRC advertizing income has collapsed during the current Chairman?s time and no commercial was aired during the news broadcast, the peak time of many of the channels, for the past two week. The August bonus of the staff has not been paid still. The reason is the sharp drop of viewers for SLRC news. Recent polls point to Sirasa TV that captures 22.4% audience as the most popular TV. SLRC is viewed only by 20.3%.

Of the top 20 programmes of the SLRC, news has captured the 20th position while the raffle draws like Jayawiru, Govisetha, Mahajana Sampatha ansd Supiri Vasana are positioned from 11 to 14. 'Heen Atha' programme that topped the SLRC top 20 once has fallen to 10th position now after it was politicized. [LeN]
