Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapksa says peace will be restored to the entire country after liberating the North in the same manner that the East was freed from the LTTE.
"The war should not be dragged on any further to burden the future generation. All should unite after setting aside petty differences. The three armed forces are in one stance to defeat terrorism." Rajapaksa said.
He was speaking at the passing out ceremony of 140 overseas-trained Civil Defence Force (CDF) personnel in Galkiriyagama yesterday (August 26).
The Defence Secretary also said that the development of the CDF has been of immense help to ensure protection for threatened villages. "Personnel were recruited for the eastern offensive from these villages," he said.
Claiming that the campaign to eliminate terrorism has reached a decisive point, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the LTTE would not be able to find any means for avoiding defeat this time, although there had been foreign interference in the past to create political instability in the country every time the Tigers were facing defeat.
