Former President Chandrika not to engage in active politics

Sources close to former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunga said that she would not engage in active politics in Sri Lanka despite media reports that she would have talks with the leaders of Sri Lanka Freedom Party – People’s Wing (SLFP-PW).

The former President who was residing in London arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday in an Emirates flight.

The third rally and the demonstration of the People’s Wave protest campaign jointly organized by the United National party (UNP) and SLFP-PW is scheduled to be held in Nittambuwa town in Bandaranaike family’s traditional electoral stronghold on August 24th.

The former President’s fuel allowance was cut off by 50% and the security squad was reduced to 69 just before her return, Sri Lanka media reported. Mrs. Kumaranatunga sent a letter congratulating the SLFP-PW when it was launched.
