APRC in muddle: Champika

The All Party Representative Committee (APRC) was initially appointed to seek for a solution for the prevailing ethnic conflict. However, it has now become incapable of solving even its’ own problems.

On August 19th, the Environmental Minister and the policy maker of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU)Patali Champika Ranawaka, openly accused the APRC chairman, Tissa Athanayaka saying that Minister Atthanayaka has become a contractor for the LTTE according to the proposals he has handed over.

The JHU also stated that Minister Atthanayaka has no right to state or hand over a proposal on behalf of the APRC even though he is the chairman.

With the APRC failing to hand over finalized proposals within the allotted time period, the UNP has currently walked out of the APRC.

Previously, the proposal brought by the expert panel of the APRC to solve the ethnic conflict was accused of being a cat’s paw of the Berghof Foundation while the government had demanded explanations from the related government officials.
