Thousands of SLFP and UNP supporters gathered at the location to in a show of support to oust the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.
Carrying green and blue flags placards and banners that accused the government of bribery and corruption by the Rajapaksa administration the activists converged on the Nittambuwa Public Stadium at around 4.00 pm.
The Nittambuwa town was decorated with green and blue coloured flags and banners that called for a new political culture and a new era for the nation.
Deputy Leader of the Jathika Sabha and oust side foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera arrived at the Nittambuwa Public Stadium at around 4.45 pm, followed by its leader and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at around 5.30 pm.
