Alleged LTTE gunmen shot dead a Tamil civilian in Jaffna

Suspected LTTE gunmen shot dead a Tamil civilian in the Nawanthurai market premises in Jaffna, today (August 12 ) at 06.30a.m.The victim was identified as Peduru Pillai Jesu Dasan, a 40 year old family man in Nawanturai.

Jaffna Police sources when inquired into the incident said that, a Police team was dispatched to the crime scene for investigations. Tension prevailed in the area while few commuters and retailers were seen in the usually crowded 'Sunday market' at Nawanthurai, Jaffna civilians said.

Meanwhile a powerful explosion of a LTTE improvised explosive device (IED) occurred targeting an army truck carrying troops in the general area of Thachchanthoppu in Jaffna today (12) around 10.30 a.m.

Two IED fixed to a push bicycle had been activated by tiger terrorists using a remote controller at the army vehicle when passing the location. Four soldiers were killed while another thirteen soldiers were injured due to the explosion.

A passenger was also injured in the incident and admitted to Jaffna hospital. The injured soldiers were rushed to the Palaly hospital.
