All must join hands to prevent human tragedy - Minister Devananda

You are worried about whether you would return home safely, if you dare go up to the road. No one could predict as to which house would turn to be a funeral house when the day dawns tomorrow. Fear, death, tragedy, hunger and famine are the daily occurrences, said the Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare Douglas Devananda to the hundreds of people who assembled at the Minister’s office in Jaffna, on Thursday (9/8).

You have assembled here after sustaining losses. You complain about disappearances and abductions. You are weeping and crying before us. I can feel the pulses of you all. Such occurrences have to be prevented. You must speak out to achieve what you are clamouring for. You must break the silence to make the dreams of both you and us a reality.

The most important aspect is to create a situation in which all sections of people in the peninsula could be able to purchase essential goods. Steps are being taken to provide relief to those low income groups and no income groups, said the Minister.
